Levitra was developed by GlaxoSmithKline and Bayer Pharmaceuticals as a potential competitor in the male impotence pill market dominated by Viagra since its launch in 1998. It is a PDE-5 inhibitor that relaxes the muscles and blood vessels in the penis, resulting in erection. Male impotence does not include any symptom such as lack of libido, and inability to achieve orgasm.

Levitra was introduced in Europe in 2003 and was approved by FDA for use in the US in 2003.Clinical trials carried out on almost 6,000 men showed that Levitra starts showing effect in as little as 16 minutes. The effect lasts for up to 5 hours. Levitra was also found to be effective in men who had serious and long-term impotence. It also induced better results than Viagra. It is not similar to Cialis because Levitra efficiency is slowed down by having a high calorie diet. Doctors suggest one to wait for 3 hours after eating a meal before taking Levitra.
One must not take levitra if one is taking medicines that contain nitrates. Nitrates are contained in medicines used for treating angina (chest pain) and other heart conditions.
Levitra is available only by prescription and one must consult doctor if one has any of the following medical complications:
• Heart or blood pressure problems.
• Kidney or liver problems
• Disease or deformity of the penis
• Stomach ulcers
• Sickle cell anaemia or leukaemia
